Vidhya Alakeson

Vidhya joined the Resolution Foundation in January 2011 and left in January 2014 to be Chief Executive of Power to Change. She managed the organisation’s research programme and lead on areas including childcare, housing and welfare reform. She previously worked as a Senior Fellow at the Nuffield Trust where she was responsible for developing the organisation’s international programme of work. Prior to that, Vidhya spent three and a half years in Washington D.C, initially as a Harkness Fellow in Healthcare Policy conducting independent, comparative research and then working for the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation at the US Department of Health and Human Services covering issues such as early years, behavioural health, health reform and housing.

Before moving to the USA, Vidhya was a Senior Policy Advisor at HM Treasury and at the Prime Minister’s Strategy Unit working on policy for children, young people and families. Before that, she spent six years working at several leading think tanks, including the Social Market Foundation and Policy Network. Vidhya has an undergraduate degree from the University of Oxford and a Masters from the London School of Economics. Her interests include life chances and social mobility, policy for children and families, health and social care and wider public service reform.
