Renting nation with Jack Dromey MP

The Resolution Foundation is hosting a high-level private roundtable at the Labour Party conference with Jack Dromey MP, Shadow Housing Minister, on “Renting nation: growth and reform in the private rented sector.”

Recently published research from the Cambridge Centre for Housing and Planning Research, commissioned for the Resolution Foundation and Shelter, shows that by 2025 the private rented sector will be a mainstream tenancy, especially for those on low to middle incomes, for families with children and in London. However, no political party has as yet put forward an overall strategy for increasing supply in the private rented sector, providing longer, more secure tenancies and improving the overall quality of the sector. While the recent housing strategy included a chapter on the private rented sector, it offered little in the way of concrete proposals related to renting. The future of the private sector is an issue that desperately needs attention and debate.

The future of the private rented sector has been at the forefront of the Resolution Foundation’s research programme over the last year reflecting its significance for ordinary working families. We are building on this by bringing together around 20 attendees at each of this year’s party conferences, including policymakers, industry experts and media, to discuss the future of the private rented sector. We would be delighted if you could participate in this discussion that will allow for frank and open debate. The roundtable will be sponsored by Grainger, the UK’s largest specialist residential landlord, whose expertise in this area will add significantly to the event.
