Profiles
The Resolution Foundation is following 8 low-to-middle income families around the UK, over the next 9 months, to understand more about their household finances, their overall standard of living and their aspirations for the future. The families will be interviewed in March, June, September and December and the Resolution Foundation will be charting their progress over the year. We are also working with the BBC who are following three of the families in a series on the World Tonight.
Below we introduce the first of the families:
Emma and Darren
Names and ages: Emma - 32, Darren - 34, Twin girls - aged 2
Occupations: Darren is a train conductor, Emma is a full time mother
Household Income: £35,000 – including overtime and tax credits

Holly and Gary
Names and ages: Holly – 25, Gary - 40, Daughter aged 8 months
Occupations: Holly works full time as a benefits advisor. Gary is currently unemployed and looking for work
Household Income: £20,000 – including tax credits

Valerie
Names and ages: Valerie – 55, Sons: Kevin – 30 and Ricky – 27
Occupations: Valerie – full-time property manager, Kevin – painter and decorator working variable hours, Ricky – builder working variable hours
Household Income: Their combined income is roughly £40,000

Karen and Darren
Names and ages: Karen and Darren aged 35 and 36; four children aged 15, 12, 8 and 2
Occupations: Karen works full time as a community link worker at a Children’s Centre and Darren works full time as a software tester
Household Income: £44,000 including tax credits

Sharon and Wayne
Names and ages: Sharon - 36 and Wayne - 42 and Jenson - 3, Holly - 3, Scott - 8, and Connor - 12
Occupations: Wayne works full-time in management at a tyre manufacturers
Household Income: Approximately £24,000
Marie
Names and ages: Marie – early forties, Son – aged 4, Daughter - aged 6
Occupations: Marie works full time as an accountant
Household Income: £30,000 – including tax credits
Daniel and Andrea
Names and ages: Daniel – 38, Andrea – 39, Oliver – 6, Daisy – 4, Lucy – 17 months
Occupation: Daniel works full-time as Sales Director for a Print Firm, Andrea is a stay-at-home mum
Household Income: £48,000
