As we embark on our second round of Redesigning Social Care Expert Groups, this briefing summarises our work in the area of low earners and long-term care to date. 

Key findings

We embarked on our current project of work which looks at how low earners fare in the long-term care system in January 2008. Our first project, which explored low earners access to financial advice, argued that long-term care:

  • Presents particular challenges for low earners
  • Is a complex mixed market in funding and delivery
  • Is becoming increasingly important as a political priority

Our work to date includes two reports, Lost: low earners and the elderly care market and A to Z: mapping long-term care markets, and the Redesigning Social Care Expert Groups: we invited five groups of experts, each with their own specialist perspectives on care to discuss the vision and architecture for a future care system.
