Disposable incomes have been squeezed in recent decades – especially for poorer households. And in recent years the cost of living crisis has hit the cost of essentials particularly hard – affecting how much families have left over for the more fun things in life. The cost of essentials therefore matters for families, the wider economy, and policy makers who want to ease the pressure on household budgets.

How have lower incomes families’ consumption patterns changed over time? Which essentials have got cheaper, or more expensive? How can existing support schemes be better targeted? And where is more Government intervention needed?

The Resolution Foundation is hosting an in-person and interactive webinar to debate and answer these questions. Following a presentation of the key highlights from the latest report of the Unsung Britain project – supported by JPMorganChase – we will hear from leading experts to dive into the issues leading to skewed inflation that hits low-and-middle income households hardest.

The event will be open for people to physically attend, alongside being broadcast via YouTube and the Resolution Foundation website. Viewers will be able to submit questions to the panel before and during the event via Slido.
