To the extent that housing supply is a key lever in easing the housing crisis long-term, there is cause for concern, with planning approvals for new housing developments at record lows and declining social rent completions.
There needs to be a dramatic increase in net additions if the Government is to reach its 1.5 million target. This would represent 12 net additions per 1000 stock in England annually – no region reached this number last year.
