Taxation is famously the only certainty in life, beyond death. But the story of its evolution across the world over the centuries is far livelier and more unpredictable than this implies. Understanding that evolution helps us see how wider society has changed, not to mention giving policy makers food for thought as they creatively devise tax policies for the challenges of today and tomorrow.

In their new book – Rebellion, Rascals and Revenue – Michael Keen, one of the world’s leading taxation experts, and Joel Slemrod explore the chequered, often amusing, and sometimes disastrous history of tax policies around the world.

To mark the launch of the book, the Resolution Foundation is hosting an interactive webinar with Michael, alongside fellow tax expert Professor Rita de la Feria, to discuss what policy makers today can learn from past successes and failures when it comes setting tax policy. Viewers will be able to submit questions to the panel before and during the event.
