Book launch for Exile Economics: What happens if globalisation fails by Ben Chu Register to attend in person or to receive an access link for online viewers. As a small, open economy the UK has tied its fortunes to the growth of globalisation for centuries. But people’s faith in globalisation has faltered in recent decades, from the anti-WTO protests in Seattle in 1999 to the Global Financial Crisis, and recent energy shock. With President Trump intent on starting a trade war, globalisation may now be in retreat, with huge consequences for Britain. How is modern day globalisation underpinned in terms of trade, travel and supply chains? How important is globalisation to people’s jobs, consumption and wider living standards? What might be the effects of globalisation going into reverse? How should policy makers respond? In his new book Exile Economics: What happens if globalisation fails journalist and author Ben Chu explores globalisation through everyday items and examines the consequences of this system of global trade going wrong. To mark the publication of his book, the Resolution Foundation is hosting an in-person and interactive after-work event with Ben to discuss its themes, and why the possibility of globalisation going into reverse matters so much to both policy makers and the wider public. The event will be open for people to physically attend, alongside being broadcast via YouTube and the Resolution Foundation website. Viewers will be able to submit questions to the panel before and during the event via Slido
