The Labour Government has had a bruising start to the Parliament. It is trailing badly in the polls and is expecting a battering in the local, Welsh and Scottish elections in early May. Another relaunch and plan for a comeback in the second half of the Parliament is expected soon. But the parameters of this relaunch are hotly disputed. Does the Government have the right strategy, but an execution problem? Do they need to change tactics and focus on new priorities that resonate more with the public? Or are major substitutions needed? A policy reset could present opportunities; but risks too if it fails to boost growth, lift living standards and convince a sceptical public. What do the results tell us about the public’s assessment of the Government’s performance and promises? Does the Government’s economic strategy need a relaunch? What should the priorities be for any reset, and does it require new policies and personalities? How might the latest global developments play into this? The Resolution Foundation is hosting an in-person and interactive webinar to debate and answer these questions. Following a presentation of new analysis of where Labour might want to reprioritise and the challenges that lie ahead, we will hear from leading experts on what the results mean on the future economic direction of the Labour government. The event will be open for people to physically attend, alongside being broadcast via YouTube and the Resolution Foundation website.
