Analysis and action on living standards
Governments and politicians can have a big effect on housing, for good and for ill. In this basket of indicators we track new housing supply; housing stock relative to the number of families; housing benefit coverage; and Help to Buy sales – all key issues in current housing policy debates.
‘Help to Buy’ is a government scheme that aims to get more people onto the housing ladder by offering government loans to buy new-build homes, with far lower deposits required. The data in this section looks at the proportion of total new build sales in regions of the UK that were facilitated by Help to Buy.
